Christy - I Don’t Love You
Scottish sensation Christy has seemingly achieved anything he’s set his mind to. Whether that be earning £200 a day from busking, due to his perfect pitch and unique musical memory, or a chat with Rufus Wainwright leading to a surprise support slot for his idol across France. After diverting into the world of acting, he’s returned fully focused on writing and releasing new music for a debut album.
His latest single ‘I Don’t Love You’ is an intriguing and complex mixture of sounds and styles that turns what it means to call a track a love song on its head. Starting off in a more traditional manner due to his softly spoken vocals over an acoustic backdrop, the track slowly unfurls into something quite special. You're perhaps expecting the song to continue in a ballad nature akin to Scottish compatriot Lewis Capaldi, instead, it flourishes into an anthemic chorus that brings brightness to these dark winter months.
One highlight, in particular, is Christy’s deep and rich vocal range, it allows for his smouldering verses to collide spectacularly with his impressive falsetto which occupies the space behind the track that allowed early folk-pop tracks from the likes of Ben Howard and Vance Joy to similarly shine.
Lyrically the track strikes into the complexities of what it means to love with Christy saying of the song: ‘I Don’t Love You’ is a song I wrote when I started to question if I still loved the person I was with anymore. I was very confused about what love actually is, so I realised it was easier to write it in a song rather than tell them. For me, this song questions what it actually means to love someone”.
‘I Don’t Love You’ continues on from previously released ‘Without You’, marking an impressive start to the year for Christy and we’re excited to see what else he has in store.
